Fundamental knowledge about hair removal

Hair Growth Cycle

The hair growth cycle is the period from the start of hair growth until the hair falls out.
The length of cycle varies depending on the area of the body. The mechanism of hair growth and falling-out is described below.

Early Period of Growth

This is the period when newly-born hair begins to grow in the shallow part of the skin.

Active Phase of Growth I

The splitting of hair-mother cells starts and produces a new hairball. The hair grows and the hairball moves deep inside the skin just like the spreading of plant roots.

Active Phase of Growth II

The hair protrudes from the pore past the surface of the skin and hair papilla grows while absorbing nourishment from the subcutaneous tissue. The hairball is firmly rooted and the hair becomes thicker.

Regression Phase (Transition Period)

Splitting of hair-mother cells stops and preparation for falling out begins. The hair-root is pushed up and the hair papilla moves away from hairball area. Then, the hairball starts to shrink.

Resting Phase

The hair separates from hair papilla and the hair papilla enters into the resting phase. The hair stops growing and naturally falls out.

It is useless to conduct hair-removal using light when hair does not exist in the skin. Therefore, it is ideal to conduct the treatment during the early and active growth stages. As hairs exist inside the skin even when they are in the regression and resting phase, it is necessary to remove them when they start to grow. Accordingly, hair removal should be repeated at certain intervals to obtain long-lasting results.

Self-treatment

Is self-treatment?

Self-treatment is cost-saving and convenient. You might consider it to be the easiest way for you. However, there are risks you should be aware of.

Risky Method 1: Plucking with tweezers

Plucking out hair with tweezers makes the skin surface looks smooth temporarily. However, the hair grows back soon as the hair roots remain inside the skin. In addition, it takes time to pluck out the hairs one by one. If you fail to pluck hair properly, the hair remains inside the skin as buried hair and the area around the pore rises and the skin becomes rough like goose pimples. If you attempt to pluck buried hair with tweezers, you might damage the surrounding skin. In the worst case, you might cause inflammation of follicles or pigmented skin around hair pores.

Risky Method 2: Shaving with a razor

This is a method many women prefer, because it is speedy and a large amount of hair can be removed at one time. However, it is only effective temporarily as the hair soon grows back. Please also note that the skin surface is shaved off at the same time. Therefore, it is not recommended for persons with sensitive skin. Also, if you leave a razor in the bathroom, it easily becomes rusty or contaminated with bacteria. If you shave with such a razor, the bacteria will enter your skin through the hair pores and you might cause inflammation of the follicles.

Hair removal by a specialist

Self-treatment gives you a temporary effect by making hair on the skin surface invisible. On the other hand, hair-removal by a specialist saves the time and trouble required for self-treatment and makes undesired hair less noticeable. The treatment using a flash lamp does not cause any damage or inflammation to the skin. Hair removal by a specialist is a very safe method and you can get rid of your troubles regarding unwanted hair.

Treatment by MuseePlatinum

We employ a hair removal treatment that uses a flash lamp. The light shown on the skin acts on the dark part (hair) only and disables the hair. Treatment will be conducted once every two or three months by adjusting the intensity of exposure in accordance with each individual’s hair growth cycle and skin conditions.
